Catherine Carrington Clawson Scholarship Fund
The Catherine Carrington Clawson Scholarship Fund was established in June of 2010 as a memorial scholarship fund by her family. The Fund will award scholarships to students participating in the Manteo High School music program to help them attend college.
The Charles H. and Dorothy S. Luedemann Art Scholarship Fund
In 1996, The Charles H. and Dorothy S. Luedemann Art Scholarship Fund was established by a bequest of Mrs. Luedemann to encourage talented Dare County students to pursue education in the field of the arts such as fine arts, visual arts, literary or performing arts. This scholarship is renewable.
College of The Albemarle Scholarship Fund
The Outer Banks Community Foundation used $20,000 from undesignated grant funds in 2000 to create the College of The Albemarle Scholarship Fund. The Foundation makes a grant payment to College of The Albemarle each year that is used to provide a scholarship to a COA student who is a resident of the Outer Banks.
Courtney M. Burgess Memorial Fund
The Courtney Marie Burgess Memorial Fund was established in 1997 by the Burgess family and Kitty Hawk Rotary Club as a memorial to the 14-year-old Manteo High School student killed in a car accident. The Fund presents renewable scholarships to one or more graduating seniors from First Flight High School or Manteo High School based on academic achievement, community service and involvement in athletic activities with preference given to a member of the swim team or a cheerleader.
Curtis Creech Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Curtis Creech Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2002 by the Town of Manteo as a memorial to this former town commissioner. Scholarships are available to Manteo High School graduates with good academic standing who are actively involved in community service activities. The Creech family is involved with the scholarship selection each year and makes the award presentations.
Dare Community Crime Line Scholarship Fund
The Dare Community Crime Line established its scholarship fund in 1997 to encourage Dare County residents to complete two-year or four-year degree programs in law, criminal justice or a related field. Scholarships are available to college students after they have completed at least one year of college. Some scholarships are also provided to help law enforcement personnel attend continuing education courses.
Dare County Association of Fire Officers Scholarship Fund
The Dare County Association of Fire Officers Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to qualified graduating seniors at each of the Dare County high schools. Recipients must be an active member or the son or daughter of an active or retired member of a Dare County fire department. Selection is based on academic performance, citizenship and financial need.
Dare County Outer Banks Jaycees Scholarship Fund
The Dare County Outer Banks Jaycees Scholarship Fund was established in 1997 to provide scholarships to Dare County students with good academic standing, financial need, high quality of personal character and commitment to community service. One goal of the organization is to train community leaders of tomorrow, and by providing scholarships the Jaycees help young people to move in this direction.
Dare Math/Science Scholarship Fund
An anonymous donor established the Dare Math/Science Scholarship Fund with a generous contribution in 1991. The scholarship recipient must plan to enter a science or math-related field of study, or a directly related area such as engineering and live in Dare County. The $1000 award is made every four years, with the recipient able to renew the award each year he or she is in college if academic criteria are met.
Dorothy T. Fletcher Memorial Scholarship Fund
This fund will provide two scholarship to First Flight High School or Manteo High School students planning to study culinary arts OR attend a trade school or community college.
Duck Woods Ladies Tennis Association Scholarship Fund
The Duck Woods Ladies Tennis Association Scholarship Fund awards one or more scholarships each year to Dare or Currituck County students who have good academic standing, are involved in school and community activities and participate as active members of the school tennis team during the senior year.
Elmer and Betty Jo Sawyer Scholarship Fund
This fund was established in 2007 to provide scholarships to Dare County residents to attend a school of nursing.
F.C. Minton Scholarship Fund
The Manteo Rotary Club established the F.C. Minton Scholarship Fund in 2007 to honor the long time employee and significant contributor to the Dare County Parks and Recreation Department Foye "F.C." Minton, Sr.
Scholarships will be awarded to help needy children participate in activities sponsored by the Dare County Parks & Recreation Department.
First Flight Society Scholarship Fund
The First Flight Society established the First Flight Society Scholarship Fund in 2008 to provide a scholarship to a deserving high school senior who plans to pursue a career in aviation, engineering or technology. Students attending Dare, Currituck, Hyde (Ocracoke High School only) or Pasquotank County High School may apply.
Founders Scholarship (Duck Woods Ladies Golf Association)
The Founders Scholarship Fund was established in 1991 to honor the founding members of the Duck Woods Golf Association. Scholarship recipients must have a strong academic record, athletic ability and should demonstrate interest in the game of golf and attend a Dare or Currituck County High School.
Frank M. Cahoon Memorial Fund
The Frank M. Cahoon Memorial Fund was established in honor of the former Dare County sheriff. The recipients should have a career focus in the field of law enforcement, criminal justice or law and attend a Dare County High School. Preference may be given to a dependent of a member of a law enforcement agency or branch of the criminal justice system operating in Dare County.
George W. Neighbors Memorial Fund
The George W. Neighbors Memorial Fund was established in 1984 in memory of this man who developed Kitty Dunes Realty by his widow, Dorothy Neighbors, and his son, Jack Neighbors. Scholarships are awarded to Dare County High School students who plan to major in marine sciences, real estate or engineering. Each scholarship can be renewed each year the student is in college.
Glenn Eure Endowment Fund for Arts Education
The Glenn Eure Endowment Fund for Arts Education was established in 2003 in honor of local artist Glenn Eure by a group of his friends and colleagues. The fund provides an opportunity for those in the community touched by Eure’s thoughtfulness to show their support by donating to the scholarship fund for a Dare County or Ocracoke High School graduate who plans to major in college in the visual, performing or literary arts.
Inez Daniels Austin Scholarship Fund
The Inez Daniels Austin Scholarship Fund was established in 1983 as a memorial to provide scholarships to Cape Hatteras Secondary School students who document academic achievement, community involvement and leadership ability. Mrs. Austin was a native of Wanchese and taught for many years in schools on Hatteras Island. She and her husband were also community leaders.
Jerry & Arlene Davis Scholarship Fund
Established in 2007, this fund gives out a $5,000 renewable scholarship each year for one student from Manteo High School or First Flight High School who demonstrates a positive work ethic and history.
John T. Daniels Scholarship Fund
The John T. Daniels Scholarship Fund was established in 2004 by Lois and Bryan Smith in memory and honor of her grandfather who photographed the first flight of the Wright Brothers on December 17, 1903. Applicants must have a strong academic record, good character, be actively involved in community service and attend a Dare or Currituck County High School. Preference may be given to a student with an interest in photography.
Kellogg-Cuthrell Manteo Rotary Scholarship Fund
The Kellogg-Cuthrell Manteo Rotary Scholarship Fund was established by the Manteo Rotary Club in memory of Gordon Kellogg and Linwood Cuthrell, partners in the construction firm that built many area schools and buildings. Recipients of this scholarship must demonstrate good academic standing, financial need, community participation, good character and attend a Dare County High School.
Lacy J. McNeill First Flight Rotary Fund
The Lacy J. McNeill First Flight Rotary Fund was established by the First Flight Rotary Club and named in honor of Mr. McNeill who was a former town commissioner, businessman and founder of three Rotary Clubs on the Outer Banks. Applicants for this scholarship must demonstrate good academic standing, financial need, community service, active participation in the Interact Club and attend a Dare County High School.
Leo Sheetz Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Leo Sheetz Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the Outer Banks Kiwanis Club in 2000 in memory of this man who was a charter member and president of the Outer Banks Kiwanis Club, and Governor and Lt. Governor of the North and South Carolina Kiwanis Clubs. He served his community through involvement in numerous service activities and civic organizations as well as retiring as owner and operator of Bayside Oil Company and was a pioneer businessman who established the first service station on the bypass. Applicants must attend First Flight or Manteo High School.
Living Legend Fund
The Living Legend Fund was established in 2007 by East Carolina Bank at the Land of Beginnings Festival. This festival honored the first Living Legend, David Stick, Founder of the Outer Banks Community Foundation. The scholarship is awarded to a College of The Albemarle student who is a resident of Dare County, and is pursuing a cultural heritage field of study.
Lucian Griffin Scholarship Fund
The Lucian Griffin Scholarship Fund was established in 2002 as a memorial to a retired math teacher and former basketball coach and athletic director at Currituck County High School . The scholarship is available to students at Currituck County High School who have completed a calculus-level math course.
Mabel O. Cooper Scholarship Fund
The Mabel O. Cooper Scholarship Fund was established in 2005 by Fred and Susan Smith of Kitty Hawk in honor of his 98-year-old aunt. Miss Cooper attended a two-year “normal school”, an institution for training teachers, and then taught for many years in New Jersey. She was a mentor for Smith and focused on the importance of education throughout her life. Smith was the first person in his family to finish college. This scholarships is available to Dare County High School seniors.
Milton A. Jewell Scholarship Fund (Academic)
The Milton A. Jewell Academic Scholarship Fund was established by the Outer Banks Community Foundation in 2003 with a bequest from Ruth Medgyes, a former Southern Shores resident, who wanted to honor her grandfather and help local students attend college. Students are considered based on academic standing, GPA, SAT scores, involvement in community service activities and jobs held. This scholarships is available to Dare County High School seniors.
Milton A. Jewell Scholarship Fund (Trade or Technical)
The Milton A. Jewell Trade Scholarship Fund was established by the Outer Banks Community Foundation in 2003 with a bequest from Ruth Medgyes, a former Southern Shores resident, who wanted to honor her grandfather and help local students attend college. In 2009, the Outer Banks Community Foundation designated up to $10,000 for scholarships for students at the College of The Albemarle taking trade or technical courses that could lead to a job or career that reside in Dare County or Ocracoke.
NCPC Bettye Neff Merit Award in Communications Fund
The NCPC Bettye Neff Merit Award in Communications Fund was established in 1998 by the North Carolina Press Club to provide scholarships to students planning to study communications in college. The Fund was named in honor of a special club member who provided outstanding leadership for this organization.
The North Banks Rotary Scholarship Fund
The North Banks Rotary Scholarship Fund was established in 1996 by the North Banks Rotary Club. Recipients must have a strong academic record, financial need, good community involvement, strong character and positive work history. This scholarships is available to Dare County High School seniors.
Outer Banks Association of Realtors Scholarship Fund
The Outer Banks Association of Realtors Scholarship Fund was established in 1994 to provide scholarships to Dare County High School graduates with a strong academic record, financial need, good community involvement and character and positive work history. The scholarships can be renewed each year the student is in college if they continue full time enrollment and good academic standing.
Peggy O’Brien Scholarship Fund
The Peggy O’Brien Scholarship Fund was established by O’Brien Beach Building, Inc. in 2004 to help Currituck County students pursue education in the building trades, from engineering to masonry and other related careers. Applicants must have good academic standing, demonstrate a financial need, and plan to attend a college, community college or technical school or institute.

This scholarships is available to Dare County High School seniors that have a good academic standing and plan to attend a college or university in North Carolina full-time.
