Key Points About The David Stick Legacy Society
1. The David Stick Legacy Society recognizes those who have named the Outer Banks Community Foundation as the beneficiary of any type of planned or deferred gift… and who choose to be listed. The purpose is to develop a large list that will encourage others to do the same, but Society members may remain anonymous if they prefer.
2. Joining The David Stick Legacy Society requires two steps. First, arrange for a planned gift in favor of the Foundation. Second, inform the Foundation by submitting The David Stick Legacy Society form. The forms are available from the Foundation office.
3. There is no minimum amount needed to be left to the Outer Banks Community Foundation. To date, we have received bequests, or know of future bequests or other types of planned gifts ranging from $1,000 to over $1,000,000.
4. The David Stick Legacy Society members may designate the use of the distributions from their future gifts, or may leave the distributions to the discretion of the Outer Banks Community Foundation’s Board of Directors. A Society gift may be used to establish a new Named Fund (if the size requirements are met) or may be added to any of the Foundation’s existing funds.
5. We do not ask how much is being left to the Foundation. We encourage donors to discuss their gifts with us to make sure we can comply with their wishes, but this is not mandatory.
6. Bequests are the most common method used to leave a gift to the Outer Banks Community Foundation. However, we also know of individuals who have made the Foundation the beneficiary of 401K/IRA plans, insurance policies, established a charitable trust in favor of the Foundation, and/or used other methods. All types of planned or deferred gifts can qualify an individual or couple for membership in The David Stick Legacy Society.
7. We will list The David Stick Legacy Society members in our publications, including the Annual Report, newsletters, ads in newspapers, event programs and on the Web site. The publicizing of the Society’s members may encourage new inquiries and new members.
8. The David Stick Legacy Society members will be invited to special receptions and other Foundation events.
9. Finally…There are many not-for-profit organizations and programs worthy of consideration and support, but the “ultimate philanthropy” is the Community Foundation itself. Gifts supporting the Outer Banks Community Foundation will ensure our ability to create a better future for all of us.
